Living on Casey Key: What Makes This Island Special
Discover the Natural Beauty and Lifestyle of Casey Key, Florida
Casey Key island guide. Casey Key is a narrow barrier island that protects parts of Nokomis and Osprey from the Gulf of Mexico. What makes this island memorable isn’t development or nightlife — it’s the untouched coastal scenery, quiet roads, and old-Florida feel that’s getting harder to find.
On the west side of the island, the Gulf shoreline offers some of the most beautiful and least crowded beaches in Southwest Florida. Soft sand, rolling surf, and endless sunset views define this stretch of coastline. It’s no surprise the island has attracted notable residents over the years who value privacy and natural surroundings.
The east side of Casey Key borders Blackburn Bay and Little Sarasota Bay. These calm inland waters are ideal for boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing. Anglers regularly find sea trout, red drum, snook, and mullet in these protected bays.
A Scenic Drive Unlike Anywhere Else
Casey Key is accessed by two bridges.
At the north end, the historic swing bridge connecting to Nokomis is one of the oldest operating bridges in Florida and a local landmark. At the south end, the drawbridge near the Venice Inlet provides access to Nokomis Beach and the North Jetty.
Spend a little time at the North Jetty and you’ll see boats moving in and out of the inlet, fishermen lining the rocks, and some of the best sunset views on the Gulf Coast.
Beaches, Water, and Quiet Roads
There are no high-rises here. No heavy traffic. Just a winding two-lane road, native vegetation, and water on both sides of you most of the drive.
It’s the kind of place you visit once and immediately understand why people fall in love with it.
Experience It for Yourself
The best way to appreciate Casey Key is to drive it slowly, stop at the beaches, and take in the views from both sides of the island. It’s a rare piece of Florida that still feels the way coastal Florida used to feel.
